Commissions
Welcome! Let’s work together to create something wonderful.
Steps to a great painting
Do you have a photograph of the place you want painted? If you have a couple of options and are not sure which would make the best painting, send them all and we can consult together about it.
Look through my portfolio and see if my current style of oil painting is right for you. I specialize in florals and landscapes. I do not do portrait commissions, although I have many artist friends who do. I can give you a good reference if you want a portrait.
If you have a style in mind that you do not see in my portfolio, send me a couple of pictures or examples of something you want and we can consult. I am very versatile and have done many styles and mediums not present in my current portfolio. For example, I used to be a watercolor artist. I have also done many pastel paintings, charcoal and pen and ink work. Although I am currently working in oils, if you want something different than you see, just ask.
Size
To pick the size of the painting I recommend measuring the wall where you would like the painting. The interior design golden rule for planning where to hang paintings and how big the art should be is approximately two thirds the width of the available wall space.
If you are hanging over a sofa, credenza or fireplace mantel, the art should be about two thirds the width of the furniture. Center your painting over the furniture.

What Makes a Good Reference Photo for a Landscape Painting
The simpler the better. The less there is going on in the photo the better the painting will turn out. Often the most common and simple scenes make the best paintings.
Lighting: the golden hour (when the light is just rising or just about to set) is often best for paintings. The most boring light is in the middle of the day.
Although there are always exceptions, the rule of thirds is a good one to think about, with the sky taking up the top third, the mountains, trees, etc. taking up the middle third and grasses or foregrounds in the bottom third.
Florals and Animals…almost anything goes as long as there is good lighting. I can usually create a good design or composition from a photo reference of flowers or animals.
Before I commit to a large painting, I will do a small paint sketch for your approval, as long as you know that sketch will go on my website or to my next art show for sale.
Let’s get to work!
